As a parent, and a therapist working with children, I am always on the lookout for material that portrays an understanding of emotions. After watching “Inside out 2” two times I can report that Disney Pixar does a phenomenal job grasping the complex world of emotions and how they shape who we are.

The movie does a brilliant job portraying how our memories create beliefs. Those beliefs then form ideas of ourselves which then helps establish our concept of self. “Inside Out 2” shows us that our sense of self is not a rigid thing but we are many things. At the end of the movie, it shows us that we need to love and accept all parts of ourselves.

“Inside Out 2” adds new characters/emotions: Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui

(boredom). Anxiety is portrayed as a protector of all the scary things that cannot be seen, trying to plan for the future. Anxiety is not a villain in the movie and is shown as trying to keep the main character safe. Every emotion has its purpose throughout the movie just like in real life.

I recommend that you go watch “Inside Out 2” to all ages. It is engaging, funny, and creative all well encompassing and promoting emotional awareness. So, grab a snack and popcorn, you won’t regret it.
